Document Summary

Structuralism is the idea that we should look at the building blocks, or the parts that make up the cognitive mind, and how all those parts are connected. You take up all the parts and build them up and see how they work together, and how we can understand them that way. They want to use introspection which is a systematic self- observation of their own conscience experience. Some of the things that structuralists try to examine are images, sensations, and feelings. Structuralism was one of the original ideas which were proposed in this type of work. It is possibly one of the reasons that these types of theories started emerging. It forced functionalism to fight against it and encouraged so many more ideas to pop up all around in other categories. I also find the idea of seeing how all the pieces fit together as a good approach to the theory.
