Standard of living went up because jobs were plentiful, relatively well paid, and in some cases had benefits. Individuals that had substantial profits because they were owners or shareholders in companies. At a less purely economic level, the war brought benefits to irish nationalists, increased pressure for full independence, led to formation of irish free state. Dominions war also increased speed and intensity of pressure for full meaning of self-government. Elsewhere in the empire achievements deferred, but increased movements after the war. Did not bring an end to violence, and did not bring universal prosperity and benefit for all. Post-war boom, people have savings, desire to enjoy ordinary pleasures again, pent-up demographic demand. Household establishment was not in line with courtship and marriage behavior. Huge number of young people setting up households after the war, have money to do it. Post war boom of consumer spending comes to an end.
