Document Summary

Each guest os has its own image. Most client-side virtual machine managers have their own virtual (internal) networks. The virtual machine shares the same ip address as the physical host. Uses nat to convert to the physical host ip. The vm is a device on the physical network. The vm does not communicatie outside of the virtual network. Before virtualization, each os needed to be a unique physical system. With virtualization, you can place multiple virtual servers or clients on a single physical system, reducing electrical power usage dramatically. Similar to power usage, it allows you to consolidate hardware duplication in an environment. A single hypervisor on a single system will run as many vms as its ram, cpu, and drive space will allow. A vm that"s shut down is no more than a file or folder sitting on a hard drive.
