Generally speaking, a user interface is everything designed into an information device with which a person may interact. Different operating systems have different user interfaces. With a graphical user interface (gui), you interact with menus and visual images. In a command-line interface, a user types commands represented by short keywords or abbreviations or presses special keys on the keyboard to enter data and instructions. How an operating system handles programs directly affects your productivity. For a program to be executed, it must run within the computer"s memory. An operating system does the following activities for memory management: Loads programs from the hard drive into active memory. What part of it are in use by whom, and what parts are not in use. Decides which process will get memory when and how much.
