Land forces: the purpose of land forces is to take, hold, and defend territory, for conventional warfare, industrialized countries have the advantage over less industrialized countries, however, this advantage disappears in guerrilla warfare. This causes a need for conventional armies to adapt and develop different tactics. Naval forces: the purpose of naval forces is to control passage through the seas and attack land near coastlines. Due to piracy, navies are used to protect shipping channels: power projection.
