ANSC 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Thyroid, Endocrine Disease, Lymphedema
Document Summary
Please explain why genetic diseases are more prevalent in purebred animals. List at least 5 of the genetic diseases common in your project breed if your chosen breed has more than 5 diseases listed. If your chosen breed does not have at least 5 listed diseases, list all of them. Genetic diseases are more prevalent in purebred animals because a majority of purebreds become inbred when they are bred excessively and not bred properly. This causes health problems that carry on through generations of animals that can adapt and show in new forms or become progressively worse, or even transform into new diseases. For my animal, a labrador retriever, there are many genetic diseases that are common among them. Another common disease is allergies, which affects them the same as humans- they can be allergic to things they come in contact with, eat, or inhale.
