Of the 20 black jurors in jury pool only one served on the jury. 91% of the eligible black jurors were removed by prosecutorial peremptory strikes, compared to the prosecutorial use of peremptories on 13% of the eligible non-black prospective jurors. Jury shuffling is rearranging the jury pool order. This can move people at the front further back to decrease the chance they might be included in the jury: the jury pool was shuffled twice when there were a predominant number of african- Miller-el: the reasons given for striking black jurors where compared to the situation of white jurors, black jurors were struck because of answers indicating equivocation about applying the death penalty. The court noted that some white jurors made statements that showed even less support for the death penalty, but those jurors were not struck: the court remanded the case on an 8-1 vote.
