Power: relationship in which one actor has greater in uence. In uence: ability to cause another actor to behave differently than it otherwise would have. We don"t necessarily use the actual de nitions listed above^^ Types of power: hard-direct or commanding use, i. e-ultimatums, soft-in uence by attraction, i. e- confucius institute or voice of america. Institutes at different universities that exist to spread chinese culture. Voice of america : how awesome america is and how good it is and spreads it over radio station . Compellence: using force to dissuade an actor from acting or undoing an action that has already been taken, attacking iraq after it invaded kuwait. Deterrence: using potential of force to back up statements of interest or prevent an attack. The reason the united states built a large arsenal of nuclear weapons is an example of potential force that we may have to use- the threat is there to deter. Defense: simply defending one"s territory or interests.
