Pop culture industry is the cause of why society is the way it is. Industry is an effect that provides movies, games, etc. that mirrors what society already is. What people make for themselves: made by individuals for whatever they want. What companies make that so popular: they sell a lot, extent to which making pop culture is so highly industrialized, 1983 50 companies made 90%, 2011 6 companies made 90% James bond: 25 movies, 5. 3 billion: star wars: 12 movies, 5. 6 billion. Bread and circuses causal role to buy into what they make bc of their self-interest: industry calls the shots, we are happy don"t want to change anything else. Mirror to society, provides people with what they want: hulu aims to deliver what you want to watch next they are causing us to run the kind of programs that they want to see. Companies make what people already enjoy: r&d.
