DEP 3053 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Research, Response Bias, Informed Consent
Document Summary
Compares groups of people who differ in age but are similar in other important characteristics. Limitations: generational differences, a difference in two people could be due to something other than age. Studies the same individuals over a period of time, usually several years or more. Limitations: subjects could die, requires lots of time and money, attrition- subjects do not want to continue the study. Hybrid research method: first several groups of people of different ages are studied (cross sectional approach) and then followed through the years (longitudinal approach) Limitations: takes even more, money, time and research than the longitudinal design. Data can be expressed with numbers, such as ranks or scales. Easily summarized, compared, charted but some nuances and individual distinctions are lost.
