Review sheet for bsc 2011: chapter 29: name the different types of tissues and their functions. Epithelium covering and lining secretion and absorption: ex) skin, lining of heart, alveoli. Connective bind and support, protection always specialized cell +extracellular matrix: protects, supports, and binds organs; stores energy as fat; provides immunity, ex) fat, bone, cartilage, blood. Muscle movement: smooth, skeletal, cardiac muscle. All body forms must conform to the laws of physics. Smaller animals accomplish this through simple cellular diffusion, since all cells are in contact with the outside environment. Large animals accomplish this through transport systems (respiratory, circulatory system). Be able to be able to recognize in examples whether homeostasis is or is not maintained. Homeostasis = the maintenance of a stable internal environment; including nutrients, o2, glucose, waste, ion transfer, ph, and body temperature: this is the major challenge to survival for all organisms. Negative feedback systems maintain homeostasis: be able to differentiate between positive and negative feedback.
