Continue to discuss the difference between sex and gender. Come to terms with gender as a complex structure. Sex: biological aspects of being male or female. Gender: a cultural construction of the masculinity - femininity dimension of our basic nature as humans. Gender identity: the sex that a person identified themselves to be. Gender norms/roles: a set of behaviors, attitudes, and emotions that are generally socially expected for men and women in a given culture. Transsexual: a transgender person who has transitioned or is transitioning form his or her biological sex to his or her self-identified gender through actions, dress, hormone therapy, or surgery. Cultural genitals: displaying your gender externally (through clothing, acting, etc. ) Gender schema theory: children adjust their behavior according to their gender norms or expectations. Gender neutrality: the idea that policies, language, and other social institutions should avoid distinguishing things according to gender. Taught much about body image (both male and female)
