White government officials in the south started to implement mechanisms which place blacks in inferior positions. Pass laws of segregation, legally separating whites and blacks (transportation, etc. ) 15th amendment says that we cannot keep people from voting by their race, color, etc. We do things that prevent people from voting without mentioning the word of race such as black. Legalized voting preventions: literacy test (being able to read), this encouraged many people to learn and read. Extra legal methods: fear, intimidation, and violence (white people would say not to go vote or they things they have would be taken away, for example sharecroppers. ) Plessy vs. ferguson- being able to sit wherever you want, plessy was a black guy that got arrested on the bus. He could pass as a white man because he was light skinned pretending that he was white.
