Document Summary

The participant is required to repeat, or shadow, only one of the messages. Change blindness: because we cannot attend to everything in the vast array of visual information available, we are often blind to large changes in our environments. Subliminal perception: the processing of information by sensory systems without conscious awareness. Sensation: the detection of physical stimuli and transmission of that information to the brain. Transduction: the process by which sensory stimuli are converted to signals the brain can interpret. The sensory receptors receive physical or chemical stimulation and pass the resulting impulses to the brain (goes first to the thalamus) in the form of neural impulses. Qualitative information: consists of the most basic qualities of a stimulus. Quantitative information: consists of the degree, or magnitude, of those qualities. Absolute threshold: the minimum intensity of stimulation that must occur before you experience a sensation.
