Nasal catheter in place with a lot of packing around it to keep from getting infected. Don"t want them to cough or sneeze a lot - because would disrupt and cause too much pressure. Need gentle and frequent mouth care but not brushing their teeth yet. Don"t want them to cough and deep breathe. Hob at 30 degrees - to prevent aspiration. Regular neuro checks - if something gets into neural vault. Check nasal drainage for glucose - would mean there"s csf in it; test with a glucose stick; if clear and has glucose, means there"s a leak of csf. Recent surgery - especially in that sinus area fatigue, lethargy, anorexia (dont want to eat, don"t feel good) Hyponatremia - because getting diluted by excess fluid: causes, s/s, weakness and decreased deep tendon reflexes - from hyponatremia, muscle cramps - because diluting sodium, weight gain, treatment restless, irritable, headache.
