Add: s&s - positive and negative, positive s&s - presence of abnormal thoughts and behaviors; disorganized incomprehensible speech (word salad), delusions, hallucinations (especially auditory), grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior. Stupor - extreme lack of movement, negativism, or rigidity. Anhedonia - inability to experience pleasure: catatonic behavior - 2 types, negative s&s - absence of normal social and interpersonal behaviors, etiology, metabolic evidence. 4 other theories - genetic, metabolic, viral, anatomical. Everybody"s born with unique brain and unique brain activity; unique anatomy; may be predictive of schizophrenia. See in schizophrenia - reduced metabolic activity in frontal lobe and other areas of cerebral cortex, increased density of dopamine receptor sites, decreased receptors for serotonin and glutamate, norepinephrine and gaba abnormalities. See changes in the brain that are similar to changes seen post viral encephalitis. Infections with influenza virus during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy is associated with disarray of pyramidal cells in the hippocampus.
