Disadvantages: expensive (,000, not portable (chambers, computers, wires etc, assume a constant density of fat free mass. Disadvantages: tracer of oxygen-18 is expensive, sample analysis can be tedious and time consuming. Use electrical conductivity to estimate a 2 compartment model of body comp (fat & fat free mass) Electrical conductance can be used to measure body comp due to the difference in electrolyte content of fat and fat free tissue. Electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium) are primarily found in fat free tissue (fat tissue contains very little electrolytes)
