50% of marriages end in divorce - myth because they look at the number of people get married each year and then look at the number divorces overall. In europe, people cohabit more often so when the split up it isn"t. Divorce so they break up just as frequently as us. Divorce rates and our reactions have changed dramatically. About 20% of american adults have divorced at least once. 85% of divorced mothers have custody of their children. Nearly 40% of students in this class probably come from divorced homes. 1:6 adults go through two or more divorces. Over half of all divorces involve children under the age of 18. 40% of children will experience parental divorce before reaching adulthood. 1:3 children will live with a stepparent for some time prior to reaching age 19. Rates of divorce vary with educational levels: higher levels = fewer divorces. 60% of second marriages end in divorce.
