Systems of development: central to understanding, mutual influence both within and across. Importance of contexts: ses (socio-economic status, education, environmental resources. Contexts are different and lead to different developmental outcomes. People all over the world have the same challenges to overcome in order to live and develop well. They just have different resources to deploy in meeting those challenges: example: everyone needs water, shelter, etc. but not everyone has access. Every child in the us will have a greater effect on the environment than 13 children born in a developing nation. If everyone in world lived like americans do we would need 5 earths to support humanity. 11-13% of the (cid:449)orld doesn"t ha(cid:448)e access to clean (cid:449)ater. The united nations estimates that sib-saharan africa alone loses 40 billion hours/ year. 1 out of 9 people in the world are undernourished. 76% of males have a primary school education. 66% of males have a secondary school education.
