Two challenges- survival of the republic urban poverty. Today education is good for our career, and the economy. Back then- sense that the new nation might not survive. There was no guarantee that we would prosper or succeed. The great majority of people don"t have the morality to participate in everyday life, vote, and participate. Challenges that called into account of survival. We were in a long war france vs. Other crisis- a number farmers refused taxation. Political parties emerged- people fighting because they identify as one party vs the other. Economic piece- as the economy expands people worry that americans are worried about themselves. People cared more about getting rich then the public life. Bring everyone into school to help teach them to be patriotic- use the schools to prop up the form of government we have. By 1860- nyc has 18,000 people a dramatic growth.
