ANFS251 Lecture 2: ANFS251 lecture 2 notes
Document Summary
You are what you eat: what an animal eats can tell us a lot about their gi tract. Knowing about their gut allows us to feed them. Eat need: digestion converting complex feed nutrients into absorbable forms. Absorbable forms are very important to get nutrients: absorption crossing the cellular lining (membranes) of gi tract. Physiological mechs are used in the process of absorbing nutrients. Active lower to higher: circulation transporting nutrients to locations in body where they are needed. Happens once nutrients are absorbed from gi tract: metabolism using nutrients. Provide some indication of type of gi tract. Or is it all what your gut looks like: simple (one) stomach monogastric. Nutritionists use both: nutritionists use both methods to figure out the best feeding. Look at shape and size: shape and size of various components of gi tract vary considerably. Relative size can provide insight as to where digestion and absorption will take place.
