Document Summary

Nervous system consists of the central (cns) and peripheral nervous system (pns: cns includes the brain, spine, and receptors that send info to brain (eyes, ears, nose, and tongue, pns includes motor and sensory components. Motor: somatic motor neurons which stimulate voluntary skeletal muscle, sympathetic automatic motor neurons which inhibit involuntary muscles (accelerates heart), and parasympathetic automatic motor neurons which stimulate involuntary muscles (slows heart) Sensory: somatic sensory neurons like skin receptors and pain sensors, and visceral sensory neurons such as receptors in internal organs. Neurons are the main cells responsible for transmitting info in the nervous system: a neuron consists of 1) dendrites which receive/collect electrical signals and pass info to cell body. The 2) cell body integrates incoming signals and generates outgoing signal to the axon. The 3) axon sends signals to dendrites of other cells. Most common neuron is multipolar neuron (just called neurons)
