The active child : child development is not passive, children participate in their own development. Preferences to attend to certain things, people over object, caregiver over others. Motivated to learn: little experimenters , practice language when alone. Actively select their own environment: friends they play with, activities they engage in, places they go, clothes they wear, books they read, etc. It depends on how you look at it. Explanation can be of multiple types: perceptual development, brain development, strategy change, etc. Physical : house, daycare, school, urban vs rural, neighborhood. Economic : national wealth, societal wealth, family wealth. Cultural : language, values, traditions, attitudes/beliefs, political structure, tech, etc. Historical : influences all these other factors. Possible sources: genes, treatment by other people, reactions to other people, choice of environment.
