Document Summary

Long take, long shots, slow pace, no swordfights. Reconstruct japan as the us ally, asap (cold war 1949 prc, 1950 korean war) Transform japan from the feudalist and militarist nation to the american style democratic nation. Promote the american way of life (democracy, capitalism, ensuring women"s rights, etc) [cinema was the most popular medium, try to use it as much as they can] [sesx, sports, etc] Flood of hollywood films, which was banned from exhibition during wwii. Support the japanese film industry but control the content. Post wwii allied occupation and its film policy. Control jidaigeki as a representative of the pre-modern (militarism, feudalism, anti democracy) Sword in jidaigeki was regarded as the symbol of pre-modern mentality. (pistol was ok, but sword wasnt irony) Didnt like the style, not the content. Increased demand for spectacular actions (esp after the emergence of tv)
