Used to be part of the encomienda system but he eventually got rid of his laborers after. Bartolom de las casas he sees how the natives are being treated by the spanish. Spanish offered this protection , natives agreed because they wouldn"t die. Dominican friar, social reformer and first protector of the indians (humanistic in an inhumane time) Natives have not fought back once and thus they shouldn"t attack them to begin, spanish are just being greedy and using the natives to their own advantage. Labels christians as hypocrites because they"re creating a hell on earth for the natives and they"re not acting christian-like. Revolutionary idea because during this time, this perspective wasn"t popular amongst the people, it"s not surprising to us because these types of actions are now common. One of the first human right"s advocates. Spanish were basically burning the natives alive and killing them.
