CAT 2 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Soft Focus, Establishing Shot, Long Shot
Document Summary
Zooming in closely to the details of everything; super tight framing. You don"t get a broad image, only close up. Showing the daily life of the main character. Close up of different morning routine things. You don"t get to see the bigger picture and don"t know about anything else that"s happening except what is zoomed in. Feels ambiguous, takes a while to figure out what"s going on. Close of up making breakfast and everything in general makes it appear violent. Sense of violence, sense of the genre of the show. Everything to do with the camera: angles, motion, framing, depth, lens quality/type (think like soft focus) Works with the director to create what you see onscreen in a film or tv show. For every shot, a cinematographer plans out everything: distance between camera and subject, kinds of lense, angle of the shot, etc. When the camera shoots a figure at a low angle, the subject appear big groans, important.
