Electrical impulses flow down the axon to the terminal. Once the impulses reach the terminal vesicles containing a neurotransmitter are triggered and move toward the terminal membrane. The vesicles fuse with the terminal membrane to release their contents (ex: dopamine). In the recovery process: transporter proteins that grab and recycle neurotransmitters, some drugs block the transporter proteins leading neurotransmitters to stay in the synapsis longer.
