Like hormones: experiment: bayliss and starling (1902) -> discovery of secretin (1st hormone discovered, before, known that injecting hcl into the intestinal lumen evoked secretion by the pancreas (bicarbonate and enzymes). Injecting the filtered extract elicited copious pancreatic secretion.
