Action potential
o VGNaC activate in response to depolarization suprathreshold
Na is moved into the cell by both its electrical and chemical gradients
When the channels open, the permeability increases
o VGNaC inactivate when the cell reached ~+30mV
The sodium channels have two gates: an activation gate and an
inactivation gate
The inactivation closes not in response to any voltage difference, but just
after a few milliseconds have passed
For the channels to reset, repolarization has to occur
at rest, activation gate is closed and inactivation gate is open
the activation gate opens and the inactivation gate is opened once the
cell is activated
the atiatio gate is still ope ad the iatiatio gate is losed, it’s
inactivated
deactivated is once the channel goes back to having the activation gate
closing and the inactivation gate opening
o eause of the iatiatio gate that loses, the ell does’t depolaize all the
ay to sodiu’s euiliiu at ~+60V
