November 1918 wafd founded: wafd means delegation a small number of egyptian officials who want to go to. Christians, muslims were a part of this: very conscious effort to unite people through nationalism without religion. New high commissioner, allenby, allows wafd to appear at paris. British don"t want wafd because there are many nationalist movements and so doesn"t want to set off a wave of nationalism throughout their empire. Wafd wanted full independence, but britain wanted to have a hand in military and foreign policy. No resolution, in 1922 england unilaterally gives egypt independence.
