Director Kosta wants to portray Medea as how she is traditionally portrayed
➔Evil, dark sorceress
Maya wants to portray Medea as being relatable and human
➔She was not some evil sorceress looking to cause harm, she was a betrayed and
hurt wife who was driven to kill her children
Maya’s visits with Brenda, the real life Medea, allow her to become closer to the human
side of Medea
➔Brenda recounts the emotions she felt as she was betrayed by her husband and
the emotions she felt when forced to kill her children
Maya reveals that she is also a real-life Medea because she killed her unborn baby
➔Both the mythological Medea and real-life Medeas are not victims of their own
fate or of mental illnesses
➔Maya and Brenda became Medeas due to social institutions and processes that
are male dominated
