Document Summary

Babies will give negative response when they see very angry face. Shows that they can recognize even at an early age. Lots of emotions animals experience that we don t think about like grief. Experiences tied to high emotions are more robust memories because of emotional overlay. Different people (or even the same person on different days) can react to the same situation with different emotions. But once we react in a certain way (anger, fear) consistent areas of the brain activate (or are activated by?) sensing those feelings. Therefore emotions and the circuits that mediate them- are in part biological (not totally learned) We see evidence of similar emotions in non humans. Ventral tegmentum (vta) and periaquductal grey (endorphins, opioids, brainstem) Anterior cingulate (+): sadness, anger, love, pain, mystical, sex. Posterior cingulate (+) happiness amygdala(+) fear, humour, sex orbitofrontal(+): mystical, love, sex. Sensory-motor mirror neuron activity while watching an action.
