Lecture 2 : research methods in psychology 09/05/17. It is not what you study, but how you study it. Scientific method : 5 steps: observe some phenomenon. Testable prediction ( test out guess about what we think is going to happen) Peer review and publication : publishing findings and allowing other scientists to. Meta-analysis : bring together all different studies and run them together to see if look at and evaluate our findings they all lead us to the same conclusion. Pro: high on external validity(:the degree to which an experimental design actually reflects the real-world issues it"s supposed to address) Con : the experimenter doesn"t have control over the variables. Bringing subjects into a lab that is the same for everyone that is tested. Pro: more controlled setting with controlled variables. Con : artificial setting it is still the real world and there could be factors that are in the real world that aren"t being taken into consideration.
