Secret police in iran (savak) to help maintain power of iran. The us was able to overlook human rights violation and ally with a non-democratic country for strategic gains. President carter put pressure on the shah to loosen his grip and free some prisoners. The country was progressively too quickly away from its values. The islamists crush other ideologies in iran after the revolution.
