In the american diet there are too many calories, salts and fats consumed and a lack of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, seafood and dairy products. calorie = 1/1000th of a kcal. Energy provided by foods is measured in kilocalories or kilojoules. One type of macronutrient is a carbohydrate. A carbohydrate is a linkage of sugar molecules. They are the preferred fuel source of the brain. Carbs include sugars, complex carbohydrates and fiber. Triglycerides are the most abundant type of fat in foods.
