Sensory perceptions: touch, see, taste, smell, hear. What is responsible for what: frontal lobe, cognition & decision making, parietal lobe, processes information from our senses, temporal lobe, processes memories, emotional experiences, processes sensations of our senses too, occipital lobe, vision. Prevalence of sensory disorders: generally speaking 1 in 6 people experience sensory or communication disorders/impairment, may affect physical and mental/emotional well being. Impaired ability to communicate may lead to : feeling of social isolation, inability to meet personal health needs, poor performance in school and work. Impaired sense of smell/taste may lead to poor nutrition, inability to detect smoke, gas leaks or foods that may be unsafe to eat. Impaired sensory function places our patients at risk for injury, disturbed growth/development and an overall decrease in total well-being. Hearing loss: timing and acuity, severity, frequencies, conductive or sensory-neural. Cataracts, macular degeneration eye difficultly in reading small print.
