Any recent changes to breast in size, shape look in the mirror do they look the same. Feel it all the time does it move. Ask if you may touch her breasts and surrounding tissues. First inspect breasts with patient sitting facing you. Then have patient lie down so that breast/nipples may be palpated. Note color of tissue, areolas and lesions/birthmarks. Usually more anxious regarding cancer recurring or metastasis. Muscle resections may have lymphedema on affected side. Nurses should be sensitive and support the patient. Benign masses caused by ductal enlargement of fluid filled cysts. Masses are usually round, move and are tender. May change in size based on menstrual cycles. Benign tumor in young women that contains glandular & fibrous tissue. Hormones do not change shape or consistency of mass. Benign disease of inflammation/dilation of sub areolar ducts. Sticky nipple discharge dark green or black in color. Seen in women 40-60 years of age.
