Listening: a process of receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and /or nonverbal messages. Listening is the most important aspect of communication. Use the power of interpretations and focus to make sense of the things we are hearing. Most of us have hard time listening but we spent most of our time listening. Action-oriented: focus on the accuracy of information, ex: listening the lecture. Content-oriented: make sense of complicated and detailed information, ex: selli(cid:374)g of produ(cid:272)ts, liste(cid:374)i(cid:374)g the details of whether it"s useful. Focus on efficiency: someone needs to call 911 so people can respond. Jack-hammer sound of construction makes it difficult to hear. Psychological: other things going on that stressed us, ex: preoccupation, catching a train conflicting objectives, professor said the materials will not be on exam but still needed to be mentioned. Poor listening habits interrupting conversations and bad eye-contact.
