Document Summary

Lecture #11: h2o expands as it freezes. Upon freezing h-bonds are going to become stable a lock into hexagonal shape. (crystals) Crystals are going to allow ice to float on top of water. In aq system sinking ice would crush and kill all living organisms within that body of. *crystals are the major problem since perforate cell"s walls in plants and cell membrane in animals. How?cryoprotectants : glucose and lactate will help prevent formation of ice crystals. Frogs: cryoprotectants : glucose and urea: h2o is very important to chemical reactions. Biological importance: presence of water facilitate chem reactions. Dehydration; which will lead to blood thickens and slowing down of chemical reactions: h2o helps to regulate temp: ecol level. H2o requires more heat than most liquids to warm. Imp things: h2o warms slowly and h2o cools slowly. And thus have an impact on the climate. Climate: weather conditions of an area over long term.
