Document Summary

Lifesci 4 - lecture 5 - ploidy and recombination. Male pass either x or y chromosome. Females always pass an x chromosome to progeny. In drosophila, the yellow mutant is characterized by a yellow cuticle. When a yellow female is mated to a wild-type male, all of the male progeny are yellow and all of the female progeny are wild type. When a yellow male is mated to a wild-type female, all of the progeny are wild type. Yellow female x wt male male(yellow) x female(wt) 100% wt (male and female: what is the mode of inheritance of the yellow mutant, recessive, dominant, x-linked recessive, x-linked dominant. This is sex-linked: in progeny, the male and female phenotypes have apparently segregation (all male are yellow, all female are wt) Cross #2 shows recessive mode of inheritance since all progeny are wild type. F2 phenotype: 100% wild type progeny this can only be true if yellow mutant is a recessive trait.
