Document Summary

Ground state is the lowest energy state (only can be one of these) All other states are excited states (there can be many of these) Hamburger has lower energy than a steak because it is in its ground state (hahahaha) Arrows going from ground state up are absorption. Arrows going from ground state down are emission. Everyone radiates, but it uv so we don"t see it. You can see radiation when a blacksmith heats up metal. As temperature increases, the area under the curve increases (this is the energy emitted) Maximum intensity of emissions makes shorter wavelengths. Temperature is always measured in k unless otherwise specified. Classical physics says that over ok would give off uv and gamma rays. That obviously doesn"t happen, so planck came up with quantum physics. Einstein really devoloped quantum physics in his miracle year 1905. No electrons ejected unless the frequency exceeds the frequency threshold the depends on the metal.
