At one time or another europe ruled 85% of global land surface. England alone controlled 26% of global land surface and population. European civilization superioriarity supposedly came from natural endowments credited to their race. Race becomes imagined natural source of superiority. Exaggerated phenotypical racial difference to justify the idea of race and racism. Idea of whiteness is limited by its contrast to other races. Sylvia wynter: the european master code of man differentiates between the human and the less than human. Europeans use theology (if you are born as fallen flesh unless you are saved by christian god, must be baptized, otherwise you are just flesh) to look at africans as fallen flesh because they are not baptized. If africans are flesh , they can be bought and sold (because they don"t have a soul) Standard of human vs. flesh changes over time. As christianity becomes less significant in european society, there are other ways of differentiation.
