Racial formation emerged out of colonialism to solve the problem of europeans wanting to extract resources and solicit labor without going against christianity. Ethnic groups consist of people who share, believe they share,, or are believed by others to share a national origin, common ancestry, place of birth, or distinctive social traits. Selective forgetting: a process by which people forget, dismiss, or fail to pass on a connection to one or more ethnicities.
