Document Summary

Action potential: selectively permeable membrane, brief electrical charge that travels down the axon with each one tipping the next. Na (+) & k (-) axon at rest: (resting potential) uid on interior of axon is (-) charged while uids on the outside are (+) charged. Threshold: level of stimulation needed to trigger an action potential. Depolarization: neuron res causing the rst bit of axon to open its gate for positive ions to enter. Action potential: moves down the axon allowing next section to open gates sodium gates in the 1st section close while others open allowing potassium to ow out repolarizing. Dopamine: movement, learning, attention and emotion excessive amounts linked to skits decreased amounts linked to parkinsons serotonin: mood, hunger, sleep and arousal: prozac; linked to depression. Norepinephrine: alertness and arousal also linked to depression. Acetylcholine: muscle action, learning and memory leads to contraction of muscles if paralyzed.
