Each hemoglobin molecule consists of 4 protein chains called globins, each which is bound to one heme, a red-pigments molecule that contains iron. The iron group is able to combine with oxygen in the lungs and release it in tissues. Aged rbc"s are removed from the blood in sinuses of the spleen and are degraded. During intrauterine life, embryo is connected to a yolk sac, which has two functions. Production of blood cells which gives nutrients to the embryo during first trimester of pregnancy. Wall of yolk sac produces germ cells (xx for female; xy for male)
