Document Summary

Important for cells to be permeated surrounded by fluid. *adh: anti-diuretic (retain water)- tap water hormone only regulates water. Total blood volume falls- as a result message is sent to posterior pituitary to release adh hormone telling you to drink more also adh stops urine excretion decreases urine volume. Alcohol inhibits adh- can"t retain water, excreting like crazy. Target adrenal gland- act on kidney tubules to bring back sodium. *salt follows water renin pathway all about bringing back fluid. Natriuretic peptides all about getting rid of water. Diabetes insipidus: some kind of trauma to pituitary not making adh anymore, inhibited. Adh if you aren"t making adh you are not able to retain water as well. Deficient in adh you will have copious amounts of excretion. Most common type of dehydration due to deficit of water and salt= normonatremic dehydration. Symptoms affecting cns, cramping, numb, weakness, possible coma.
