EDG 4410 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Assertiveness
Document Summary
Aggressive statements are used to make a person feel accused of something. Assertive statements focus on what we want the other person to do: using assertive statements makes a student focus on what they can do better. This process starts with us rewiring out brains to focus on what we want out of the students. As a shy person, being assertive is something i struggle with. This chapter was really helpful with ideas on how when i say something i can be heard from the children. I will try this out on the kindergarten class i am teaching for junior. I have been struggling with getting them to respect and pay attention to me. They want to talk and mess around while i am talking. It can be very frustrating so i am looking forward to applying some of these methods.
