Refractory period following ejaculation, men are unable to reach orgasm for minutes or longer: virtually all men experience this, present in many animal species, mechanism unknown but , neurological inhibitory system triggered by ejaculation. Aging- women intensity of response cycle decreases: vasocongestion occurs slower intercourse might become painful, hormone therapy, lubricants reduced contractions at orgasm, more difficulties to reach orgasm, more rapid resolution phase. Aging- men intensity and duration of response reduced less myotonia: slower, less firm erection, delayed ejaculation/ greater control, decline in intensity of orgasm, more rapid resolution.
