One of kuhn"s most radical claims: different paradigms are going to be incommensurable with each other. Have to look at the things that are different between different paradigms. Cannot compare them & decide what to believe. Newtonian: motion of physical objects has to be explained by forces acting upon them. Aristotelian (replaced by newtonian): motion of objects is explained by their tendencies to seek their natural place in the universe. Based off of elements fire, water, earth, & air. What things are legitimate for us to draw on. Kuhn: different paradigms involve the following kinds of commitments to thinking about natural phenomenon in particular ways. Darwinism: reconstruct natural histories that reflect the descent of contemporary organizations from common ancestors & adaptation to their environments. Natural theology: you explain biological phenomena by showing how groups of those organisms had been wisely designed by god to inhabit their natural environment.
