Could have a label like immigrants with/without legal status . Relatively innocuous terms that do not necessarily indicate what view is on the topic. Words you use can always hurt someone. Need to be careful denying freedom of speech & people having different views. We frequent surround ourselves with views that increasingly support our views. No matter what if someone expresses their opinion, someone else can be hurt. Cannot eliminate speech because it can be hurtful -> would have to end democracy entirely. People need to seek out the truth. Previous publications have been done by harvard press, princeton, etc. Wanted to collect data about diversity & social capital. Social capital: people feeling that they belong, that they matter, & that they can affect outcomes. Data did not support what he wanted to find. Areas where populations that were diverse & areas where populations were not diverse.
